Sales Tax PDF Print E-mail
Sales tax should be raised to an even 8 percent and the state should start taxing food again, at a lower rate of 3 percent, then everyone in the state would be helping to ease the tax burden and not put the main burden on the state employees by taking away 6 percent of their income.

There are approximately 17,000 state employees and over 2 million residents, so it isn’t right to make them carry a bigger share.  Also the Governor giving his staff a raise when the rest of the state employees are looking at a 6 percent cut is outrageous.  All state employees have been assigned additional duties since the unfilled positions in their departments have for the most part remained unfilled.  This is like the raises AIG gave its executives, just on a smaller state scale.
