We are already extremely low in per pupil funding, lower than almost every other state in the union.  It is appalling also that we are proposing increasing class sizes; that means most teachers will start with at least 40 students per class in high school; this is far too large.  It further concerns me that we are proposing slashing more funds from an already cash strapped system.  We are doing our community and the future of our community and nation a disservice by valuing education so little.

Here are some things that could be cut or changed:  1. Year round school.  There is no justification for this and it cost a lot of money to pay administrators, specialists, and cooling costs.  2. Stop paying for PSATs for every tenth grader in Nevada.  Most tenth graders do not take the test seriously at all.  If they have an economic hardship and want to take the PSAT, they should apply for a fee waiver.  3. Put good teachers back in the classroom rather than roving to try to teach other teachers somewhere.  4. Cut administrative overhead.  We do not need all the administrative oversight that we currently have.  We need more funding for the site, for students, for teachers, and for necessary supplies.  5. Do not under any circumstance cut teacher pay.  Teachers have not received the same raises as other government employees. They also did not even receive the last raise promised them.  Furthermore a $15.00 per paycheck fee was slapped on all teachers to pay for current retirees; teachers never had any say in this measure either.  Do not ask teachers to do more than the vast amount of work they already do for less.
