Nevada is already in 50th place when it comes to funding education. Our teachers are one of the lowest paid in the nation. Finding highly qualified teachers to meet the No Child Left Behind federal requirement is already very, very hard. The suggestion to cut funding either in salaries or per student funding will just cause Nevada students to fall even more behind and good teachers to leave the state. How can Nevada get business to move here if we do not have an educated population? If you go through with the idea to cut funding in education in any way, you are dooming Nevada for YEARS to come. Do something proactive. Do not cut, create. We need to bite the bullet and find a way to fund education without sacrificing our children and our futures. Create a lottery. Let gaming know that unless they want to fund education, we need a lottery. Have a food sales tax that goes to education. People, who have kids, pay more for food, so they will pay more of the tax. Additionally, the few tourists that come will pay for food too. If you have to, I will pay an income tax. But please don’t doom my state to be an education joke. |
