I just read in the Reno paper that significant cuts are being proposed in Rural Regional Centers budget, keeping SRC flat and giving Las Vegas large increases. This just doesn’t make sense. The people in the rural areas struggle in so many ways as it is and you are going to increase funding to Las Vegas?
If you would look at per capita statistics you would see that things
work much better in the rural areas than in either LV or Reno.
Contract amounts are smaller, supports are more successful, people are
healthier, and staff turnover for providers is significantly lower.
Las Vegas has huge possibilities for employment, housing, and
recreation. Rural statistics, per capita, for reduced income based
housing are HUGELY lower in all the rural counties than in Clark
County. There is a much more comprehensive bus service in Las Vegas
than in the rural areas. What are these people supposed to do if you
cut services? Do you want everyone to move to Las Vegas? It sounds
like it is a purely numbers issue; voters are in Las Vegas, so that is
the area you are going to cater to. It is clear that politicians on a
national basis are running amok, but I had thought better of our local
Nevada elected officials.
